Terms of Service

The agreement, in plain language.

Last updated: June 21, 2026. Effective on first use of the platform.
Short version: We are an introduction platform, not an employment agency. We build you a Living Profile, match you with internship opportunities, and make you findable by companies who have agreed to treat your data responsibly. You stay in control of your profile and your data at all times. Companies pay to contact you; you decide whether to respond. No placement is guaranteed. Payments go through Stripe. You can leave any time.

1. Who you are agreeing with

This platform (app.internshipabroad.me and any associated sub-domains) is operated by Students Abroad, a sole proprietorship registered in the Netherlands, trading as Internship Abroad (TO CONFIRM: registration number and registered address). When these Terms say "we", "us", or "Internship Abroad", we mean Students Abroad.

By creating an account, completing any onboarding step, accessing the platform, or clicking "I agree", you enter into a binding agreement with us under these Terms. If you are acting on behalf of an organisation (a company or university), you represent that you have the authority to bind that organisation.

2. What the service is (and is not)

Internship Abroad is an introduction platform. We help students find internship placements abroad by building Living Profiles, matching students with relevant opportunities, and making students discoverable to companies and host organisations who are looking for interns.

What we do

  • Living Profile. We build a structured, shareable profile from your answers in a guided onboarding conversation. Your profile summarises who you are, what you study, where you want to go, and what you bring. A member of our team reviews every profile before it goes live.
  • Matched opportunities. We source internship openings and hiring demand from our partner network, public job boards, and our own outreach, and surface the most relevant ones to you based on your field and destinations.
  • Discoverability. Companies who have agreed to our terms can browse the student pool and pay to request an introduction or contact you directly. You decide whether to respond.
  • Optional guidance. We provide written playbooks, templates, and on-request support. A separate Full Service track offers active placement support; this is agreed individually.
  • Perks (coming soon). Student rates on selected products and services. These appear only once real agreements with third-party providers are in place.

What we are not

  • We are not an employment agency or recruitment agency and do not act as one. We do not employ students, place them in the legal sense, or act as an intermediary in an employment relationship.
  • We do not guarantee any specific company, role, salary, interview, reply, or placement outcome. We promise effort, transparency, and the tools to give you a real shot.
  • We do not vet the legal or financial reliability of host companies. You must carry out your own due diligence before agreeing any placement, internship, or other arrangement with a company you meet through the platform.
  • A "Verified IA partner" label on a company means we have worked with that organisation and placed students there previously. It describes our relationship, not a guarantee of an offer, a safe workplace, or any employment standard.

AI assistance

Parts of the platform, including the onboarding conversation (Isa) and matching logic, are AI-assisted. The AI operates under our team's supervision. A real person reviews every Living Profile before it goes live. Automated matching is used to suggest opportunities; it never makes a decision with legal effect about you, and you can always request a manual review.

3. Who can use the platform

Students

You may use the platform as a student if:

  • You are at least 16 years old. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian is aware of your use.
  • You are currently enrolled in, or have recently completed, a higher-education programme (bachelor's, master's, vocational, or equivalent).
  • The information you provide about yourself is accurate and honest.
  • You are not barred from entering into contracts under applicable law.

Companies and host organisations

A company may browse and contact students only after creating a company account and accepting the company-specific terms in Section 5. Access to student profiles is a paid feature.

Universities and sending institutions

Universities access dedicated partner portals and are bound by the university terms in Section 6 as well as any separate agreement signed with us.

4. Student obligations

As a student using the platform, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate information. Everything you tell us about your identity, education, skills, and availability must be true. We may pause or remove your profile if we discover material inaccuracies.
  • Keep your account secure. You are responsible for your login credentials. Tell us immediately at daan@internshipabroad.nl if you suspect unauthorised access.
  • Behave professionally. Treat companies, our team, and other students with respect in all communications facilitated by or arising from the platform.
  • Not misrepresent yourself. Do not claim qualifications, experience, language levels, or visa eligibility that you do not have.
  • Not use the platform for any purpose other than finding an internship abroad. Commercial solicitation, advertising your own services, or reselling introductions you receive through the platform is not permitted.
  • Keep us informed of relevant changes. If your availability, study programme, or visa status changes materially, update your profile or tell us.

5. Company obligations

These obligations apply to any organisation that creates a company account or accesses student profiles through the platform. By accessing a student profile, the company accepts these obligations in full.

Permitted use

Student profiles and the information contained in them may be accessed and used solely for the purpose of evaluating and pursuing internship placements through the Internship Abroad platform. You may not use student data for any other purpose.

Data handling

  • You receive student personal data as an independent data controller. You are responsible for your own GDPR compliance in respect of that data.
  • You must not share, sell, transfer, or sub-license student data to any third party.
  • You must not enrich, repurpose, or combine student data with other datasets for purposes beyond the internship evaluation for which access was granted.
  • If a student withdraws consent or exercises their right to erasure, we will notify you. Upon notification, you must delete the relevant student's data from your own systems within 30 days and confirm deletion to us in writing on request.
  • You must apply appropriate technical and organisational security measures to protect student data you hold.

Non-discrimination

You must not discriminate against any student on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law. Access to student profiles does not permit selection criteria that would be unlawful under EU or applicable national employment law.

Contact and conduct

  • You may contact a student only through the channels provided by the platform or by means of contact details the student has explicitly shared with you.
  • Contact must relate directly to a genuine internship opportunity. Unsolicited marketing or contact for unrelated purposes is prohibited.
  • You must not pressure, harass, or mislead any student.
  • If a student does not respond, do not contact them more than twice in any 30-day period on the same opportunity.

Internship conditions

Any internship arrangement entered into with a student must comply with applicable labour law, including minimum-wage rules (where they apply to interns), working-hours rules, and health and safety obligations. We are not a party to any such arrangement and accept no liability for it.

No scraping or automated access

You must not scrape, crawl, automate, or systematically extract student data or any other content from the platform by any means, technical or otherwise.

6. University obligations

Universities and sending institutions access the platform through dedicated partner portals. By activating a portal or accessing student data through it, the university agrees to:

  • Use student data and placement information only for the administration and monitoring of the student's internship programme.
  • Not share student data received through the platform with third parties not involved in the student's placement, without the student's prior consent.
  • Act as an independent data controller in respect of any student data they process via the portal, and maintain their own lawful basis for that processing.
  • Comply with any separate data-sharing agreement entered into with us, which governs the specific terms of the data flow.
  • Ensure that their use of the portal complies with applicable law, including GDPR, and with any internal academic-integrity or data-governance policies.
  • Promptly notify us of any suspected data breach or security incident involving student data accessed through the platform.

7. Acceptable use and prohibited conduct

The following conduct is prohibited for all users, regardless of account type:

  • Attempting to access accounts, data, or systems you are not authorised to access.
  • Uploading or transmitting malware, viruses, or any harmful code.
  • Scraping, harvesting, or systematically copying any content or data from the platform.
  • Using the platform to send unsolicited commercial messages (spam).
  • Impersonating another person or entity.
  • Posting or transmitting content that is defamatory, obscene, discriminatory, or otherwise unlawful.
  • Using the platform to facilitate any activity that is illegal under applicable law.
  • Interfering with the operation or security of the platform or any underlying infrastructure.
  • Reverse-engineering, decompiling, or disassembling any part of the platform.
  • Selling, renting, or sub-licensing your access to the platform to any third party.

Breach of this section may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account, removal of your data, and, where applicable, referral to law enforcement.

8. Student profiles, consent, and data

Your data belongs to you

The personal information and content you submit to the platform is yours. We process it to provide the service. Our detailed data practices are set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of this agreement.

Consent to display your profile to companies

Before your profile becomes visible to companies, we will ask for your explicit consent. Consent is always:

  • Separate from, and not bundled with, account creation or payment.
  • Given by a clear affirmative action on your part (a ticked checkbox, not a pre-ticked one).
  • Specific to the purpose: display of your profile to companies for internship matching.

Consent for displaying your photo is requested separately. You can participate in the platform and receive matches without making your photo visible to companies.

Withdrawing consent

You can withdraw consent at any time from your profile settings, or by writing to us. Withdrawal takes effect immediately: your profile stops being shown to companies. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of any processing that occurred while consent was in place. We retain a minimal suppression record after deletion to prevent accidental re-registration; this does not constitute continued use of your data.

Data subject rights

As a data subject under the GDPR, you have the right to access your data, correct inaccuracies, request erasure, restrict processing, object to processing, and receive a portable copy of your data. You can exercise any of these rights by writing to privacy@internshipabroad.nl TO CONFIRM: privacy contact address. We respond within one calendar month.

Who your data is shared with

When your profile is live, it is visible to companies who have paid for access and have agreed to handle your data only for internship-evaluation purposes (see Section 5). We also use a small set of third-party service providers who process data on our behalf under data-processing agreements: our hosting provider, payment processor (Stripe), email platform, and analytics tool (Umami, privacy-first, no cookies). A full list of sub-processors is in our Privacy Policy.

No biometric processing

We do not run facial recognition, biometric template extraction, or any automated identification processing on profile photos. Photos are stored and displayed as ordinary images. We will not introduce such processing without separate explicit consent and a prior Data Protection Impact Assessment.

Automated matching

We use automated logic to suggest which opportunities are shown to you and which students are surfaced to companies. No automated decision with a legal or similarly significant effect is made about you without human review. You may request a manual review of any match at any time.

9. Intellectual property and licence to display profiles

Our platform

All software, design, graphics, text, and content we create for the platform (excluding your content) belong to us or our licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property law. You may not copy, reproduce, or distribute any part of it without our written permission.

Licence to your content

You retain ownership of all content you submit (text, photos, answers). You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to store, process, display, and transmit your content solely as necessary to provide the service, including displaying your Living Profile to companies in accordance with your consent choices. This licence ends when you delete your account or withdraw consent for the relevant processing, subject to any retention obligations we have under law.

Platform content

Internship listings, company profiles, editorial content, and guidance materials we publish are our intellectual property. You may use them only for the purpose of finding or evaluating an internship through the platform. You may not republish or commercialise them.

10. Payments, pricing, and refunds

Who pays what

Student onboarding and profile creation is free of charge TO CONFIRM: confirm if any student-paid tier exists at launch. Companies pay to access and contact students. University partners pay under a separately agreed fee structure. Certain add-on features (such as the Full Service placement track or hand-crafting upgrades) are charged to students where applicable; prices are shown at checkout.

Pricing tiers for companies

Company access is available on the following plans TO CONFIRM: finalise tier names, prices, and feature limits before launch:

  • Pay-per-intro. A one-time fee per student introduction request. Charged at the point of requesting contact details.
  • Season pass. Unlimited intro requests for one internship intake season (defined as a rolling 12-week period). Billed upfront.
  • Openings plan. A monthly subscription giving access to a set number of active student profiles and priority placement matching. Billed monthly. TO CONFIRM: set credit/profile limits per plan

Prices are shown on the pricing page and confirmed at checkout before any charge is made. We may change pricing by giving 30 days' notice; changes do not affect an active subscription period already paid for.

Payment processing

All payments are processed by Stripe, Inc., a third-party payment provider. We do not see, store, or process your card number or payment credentials. By making a payment, you also agree to Stripe's terms of service. Stripe is available at stripe.com.

Refunds

Students (paid add-ons)

If you purchase a paid student add-on and change your mind within 14 days of payment, and we have not yet started work on the deliverable, you are entitled to a full refund. Once work has started, refunds are at our discretion and reflect the proportion of work not yet completed. Contact daan@internshipabroad.nl to request a refund.

Companies (pay-per-intro)

If you request an introduction to a student and the student's profile is found to have been materially inaccurate (for example, the student is not genuinely available for the period stated), we will credit the fee to your account within 5 business days of a verified complaint.

48-hour availability refund. If a student does not respond to your introduction request within 48 hours of delivery, or if the student's profile becomes unavailable within 48 hours of your purchase, we will refund the introduction fee in full. This refund is automatic where technically possible; otherwise, contact us within 7 days of the request.

Companies (season pass and openings plan)

Season passes and monthly subscriptions are non-refundable once the access period has begun, except where required by applicable consumer-protection law. If you cancel a monthly subscription, access continues to the end of the current billing period and no further charges are made.

No refunds in cases of misuse

No refund is issued where the user violated these Terms or where the refund request is made in connection with prohibited conduct.

11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Service provided "as is"

We provide the platform in good faith and work hard to keep it accurate, available, and useful. However, we make no warranty, express or implied, that the platform will be error-free, uninterrupted, or free of harmful components, or that internship opportunities listed will be available or accurate at the time you access them.

No placement guarantee

We are an introduction platform. We do not guarantee that any student will receive an internship offer, that any company will find a suitable candidate, or that any placement will be completed. Outcomes depend on many factors outside our control, including student and company conduct, visa conditions, and third-party availability.

Third-party content and links

Internship listings, company descriptions, and external links on the platform come from third parties. We do not endorse them and are not responsible for their accuracy, legality, or safety. Visiting third-party sites or engaging with third-party companies is at your own risk.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, our total liability to you for any claim arising from or related to these Terms or the platform is limited to the greater of: (a) the total amount you paid us in the 3 months before the event giving rise to the claim; or (b) EUR 100.

We are not liable, under any theory of liability, for: loss of profits or revenue; loss of data; indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages; or any damage or harm arising from a placement, internship, or employment arrangement entered into through the platform.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

Jurisdiction note

If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, you benefit from any mandatory protections provided by the law of your country of residence that cannot be waived by contract. Nothing in this section affects those rights.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Internship Abroad, Students Abroad, and our officers, team members, contractors, and agents from and against any claims, losses, damages, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:

  • Your breach of these Terms;
  • Your use or misuse of the platform;
  • Content you submit to the platform that infringes a third party's rights or is unlawful;
  • Any placement, internship, or other arrangement you enter into with a company or student you met through the platform; or
  • Your violation of any applicable law.

This section does not apply where the claim arises from our own negligence or wilful misconduct.

13. Termination

By you

You can close your account at any time by using the "Delete account" option in your settings or by writing to us. We will delete your active data within 30 days, subject to any data we are required to retain under applicable law.

By us

We may suspend or terminate your access to the platform immediately if:

  • You breach these Terms and, where the breach is capable of remedy, fail to remedy it within 7 days of notice;
  • You engage in conduct that endangers another user, our team, or the platform;
  • You misrepresent your identity, qualifications, or affiliation in a material way;
  • We are required to do so by law or a court or regulatory order.

Where we terminate for breach, we will notify you by email and explain the reason. You will have the opportunity to contest the decision by writing to us within 14 days.

Effect of termination

On termination, your access ends immediately. Sections that by nature survive termination continue in force: intellectual property (Section 9), disclaimers and limitation of liability (Section 11), indemnity (Section 12), and governing law (Section 14). Outstanding payment obligations also survive.

14. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms and any dispute or claim arising from or connected with them are governed by the laws of TO CONFIRM: Italy (Sardinia) once the Italian entity is incorporated; until then, the Netherlands. The parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of TO CONFIRM: [city], Italy / Amsterdam, Netherlands for the resolution of any dispute, except that:

  • If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, you may also bring claims before the courts of your country of residence.
  • Nothing prevents either party from seeking urgent injunctive or interim relief before a competent court in any jurisdiction.

EU Online Dispute Resolution. The European Commission offers an online dispute-resolution platform for consumers at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. We are not currently obliged to participate in an alternative dispute-resolution procedure, but we commit to trying to resolve any complaint through direct communication first.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we will notify you by email at the address on your account and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page at least 14 days before the change takes effect.

If you continue to use the platform after the effective date of the change, you are agreeing to the updated Terms. If you do not agree, you should close your account before the change takes effect.

Minor changes (for example, fixing a typo, clarifying a sentence without changing its meaning, or updating a contact address) may be made at any time without advance notice.

16. Contact

Questions about these Terms, a refund request, a data-rights request, or anything else: write to us at daan@internshipabroad.nl. We respond within two business days.

For data-protection matters specifically, you can also write to privacy@internshipabroad.nl TO CONFIRM: privacy contact address.
